Kadans has concluded a contract of sale regarding the acquisition of the former Mariënburg convent in ‘s-Hertogenbosch for the housing of the Graduate School Data Science, an initiative of Tilburg University and the Eindhoven University of Technology. Universities have decided to join forces and realise a Data Science cluster of international standing at this monumental location. The Graduate School is seeking a campus concept in which to house research and education functions, facilitate incubators together with the business community and create accommodation for students.
‘s-Hertogenbosch and Mariënburg form a high-potential environment
‘s-Hertogenbosch, the capital of the province of Brabant, has a prominent regional central function in “The Smartest Region of the World”. Stimulated by good accessibility, a majority of ’s-Hertogenbosch residents have their employment within the city. With the relative abundance of IT companies, the presence of Agrifood Capital network organisation, the HAS University of Applied Sciences and the Avans University of Applied Sciences, the surroundings are characterised by a relatively prominent ICT, agrofood and education cluster. A cluster that offers a great deal of potential for further growth if the local workforce can be tailored to meet the increasing demand for skilled labour by regional agrofood and ICT companies. Both the municipal authorities and local businesses have therefore enthusiastically supported knowledge enriching initiatives by creating connections, crossovers and growth potential between knowledge-intensive organisations. All aimed at realising an attractive climate that will foster the desired potential working population. Current regional economic developments and the relatively high demand for ICT professionals also stimulate new educational programmes such as Data Science.
